1502 XO CIGAR REVIEW 2024

1502 XO CIGAR REVIEW

Global Premium Cigars (GPC) is affiliated with 1502. As you may know GPC is known for its unique and exceptional cigars that have been hand crafted.

The company behind the brand, 1502 Cigars, is managed by Enrique Sanchez who has dedicated his life to creating the best of smokes.

This name was derived from the year 1502which was when Christopher Columbus discovered Nicaragua and it refers to the cigar’s Nicaraguan heritage.

The line suggests that all the cigars in this series are made of Nicaraguan tobacco blends only which cannot be mixed with any other tobacco within or outside Nicaragua. Each of these cigars has a different taste unlike others and are made up of mixtures that are filled with various aromas.

WHICH CIGARS ARE 1502 KNOWN FOR?

There is one thing that can be said about small-batch lines-it is they have their individualism and pay a special tribute to Nicaragua as well. For example, there are what we call hidden gems like 1502 Emerald, 1502 Ruby or 1502 Black Gold whose names commemorate Christopher Columbus discovering both jewels and Nicaragua itself.

The first time I saw a picture of this stogie I knew it was going to make an impact on my smoking experience forever; it did not take long before I therefore ordered some sticks. This cigar is amazing. It debuted in March 2015 but continues to blow away smokers even today.

WHAT IS THE 1502 XO?

Sounds like aged spirits? The term “XO” used here means “extra old,” which in this case refers to tobaccos being aged for a significant period before blending them into this masterpiece.

Sanchez added what he calls his “cigar lock,” which partially covers footers located at each edge of the cigar.

First thing that struck me about the 1502 XO cigar was how golden color band and black one contrasted against its beautiful dark wrapper. Additionally, it had striking red script stating ‘XO’. I knew immediately that this was a cigar that demanded smoking and attention.

WHAT IS THE COLD DRAW LIKE?

Cold draws can also help you to identify the various flavors of a cigar. It is also used to draw attention to any issues with the smokeability of the stick.

The cold draw gave me some cocoa notes, a bit of spice and very mild fruitiness.

It is not clear what wrapper, binder and filler were used for 1502. The information about the origin of these cigars is known to everyone but we do not know their exact types of tobacco leaf (wrapper, binder, or filler).

WHAT IS THE BLEND PROFILE OF THE 1502 XO?

The 1502 XO cigar provided multiple taste changes throughout. Listed below are my palates with regards to different parts of this cigar i.e. the first third, second third and last third.

When I first started this smoke, I immediately welcomed the mixed flavors of chocolate, pepper and natural tobacco. Flavors in the beginning took some time before they became more pronounced in terms of blending together well.

LOOKING AT THE FLAVOR PROFILE

As I transitioned into the second third you could tell that it was all about tobacco and chocolate in this stogie. And there was real coffee accompanying it ever so slightly before pepper came back giving an exciting kick.

I found that the closer I came to the end of the cigar, then other flavors started coming up such as vanilla cream. All in all, it was a well-balanced smoke that kept getting better.

HOW DOES 1502 XO DRAW?

The 1502 XO has a very open draw but not flaky or loose. It burned straight and produced white and black ash which wasn’t too solid.

Frequently when a cigar is blended with aged tobacco, it may be somewhat demanding; nonetheless, this stick had a smooth and well evened-out draw that made the whole experience sweeter.

When I got into the cigar, its strength increased slightly but still remained medium-bodied. That is exactly what I expected.

FINAL THOUGHTS

This stogie really shows off long-aged 18 year-old tobacco through glimmers of various tastes, and it’s something which I can recommend highly.

With each puff comes a new flavor that adds to your overall smoking pleasure. This makes it an ideal blend for anyone into cigars irrespective of whether you are new in this field or have been smoking for years now and want to expand your taste buds’ repertoire on cigars.
